Qualcomm Building “W” & Cogen Facilities, SAN DIEGO, CA

SCOPE OF WORK

The Qualcomm Project consists of a data center, central plant, labs & offices. The project included a complete build-out of an existing two-story shell building of 115,000 square feet.

Building W has a 25,000 square-foot data center, 65,000 square-foot office space, and 25,000 square-foot lab space. The central plant consists of three 2.7 megawatt diesel generators, two 1.6 megawatt UPS, one 1 megawatt UPS and two 600 kilowatt UPS.

The central plant provides 12kv distribution of normal and emergency power to the campus. In addition, the central plant has four 860-ton electric chillers and one 1150-ton steam absorption chiller that provides the cooling for the data center and balance of the campus.

This facility is utilized for Qualcomm’s development of cellular technologies, therefore, the facility was required to be N + 1 of reliability for the power and cooling.
